My Story

27 May 2021

This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

My Challenge

  • No wonder!
    11 Sep 2021

I finally figured out why I was having a hard time using the Great Cycle Challenge app on my phone to post updates! They put out a new app in July!

It all makes sense now! 😂

The new app is soooo much better!

    11 Sep 2021

I was so focused on my cycling, that I found it difficult to get to my computer to post updates for you along the way. I was able to share some of my experiences on Facebook and Strava (my fitness app) because I could do that on my phone. Updates on this fundraising page require me to sit down at my computer. That just wasn't happening for me in the midst of all that time on my bike.

So, here I am now, rested and calm. Life has settled back into it's normal rhythm and I'm feeling good.

I can hardly believe that I've managed to actually DO that amount of cycling!! 1000km! If you look at my Strava activity, you'll see that I did almost nothing before August hit! I'm amazed that I didn't get injured! I did suffer a bit of a coldin this last week.. Not surprising, really.

That's my body's way of saying, "Whoa, there! You over-did that a bit, didn't you? Let's pull you back and slow you down now."

It was a crazy, busy, and exhausting month. I am so grateful for all the donations and support. I'll be catching up on my thank you responses on this fundraising page in the next little while.

With your amazing support, you helped me raise over $8,400!

Your donations bestow upon me the special honour of wearing the 2021 Great Cycle Challenge Hero Jersey. I wear it with the joy of knowing the difference we're making. Cancer doesn't stand a chance. We WILL kick it to the curb! We WILL see a day when cancer is no longer a threat.

    I truly believe that. 💙🤍🧡

With so much energy and time going to my fundraising goals, I had to say no to almost everything else during the challenge in August. It was especially difficult to get into my craft room. That made me sad and a bit more irritable (crafting is usually my stress relief). I missed it so much!

However, I believe that funding childhood cancer research is so incredibly important. It kills me to know, that everyday, there are kids who are suffering with pain, nausea, fear, and fatigue. I think of how there are moms and dads who have to watch their kids suffer the side effects of cancer treatment, knowing that even after all the horrible things they put their child through, it still might not be enough.

So many kids have lost their fight.

Knowing this, I was able to set aside my life for a month. I could endure my sore butt and tired body. I could put up with feeling more irritated and emotional. I could deal with wasp stings, sweat in my eyes, the smoke and the heat. My complaints are insignificant and petty in comparison. There really is no comparison at all.

Thank you again, for all of you who showed your support. Some of you rode with me. Some wanted to, but we couldn't quite coordinate it. Some of you cheered me on and encouraged me with your kind words and warm smiles. Some of you spread the word for me. Some helped me with my bike or my gear. Some helped by being okay with my absence. Some of you donated. Some of you amazed me with your generosity.

I see your hearts, my friends. Your beautiful, beautiful hearts.

Thank you. You are my people.
