One month. One Goal. Fight kids' cancer.

This August, we're riding to end childhood cancer and save little lives.

Every hill we climb and every kilometre we pedal will be to honour those lives we've lost and stand with those brave kids still fighting to survive. These kids won't give up, and neither will we.

Our goal is to fund life-saving research to develop safer and more effective treatments, and find cures for all childhood cancers.

Because kids should be living life, NOT fighting for it.

  • Gorgeous day for the Hastings Highlands Hilly Hundred: Big Cliver Course

The day started sunny but cool ... 3°C! You got to climb in the shade, which got you toasty. Then as you crested the hill, you were in the sun. Then it was a chilly descent to the bottom. Rinse and repeat ... for over 155km and almost 2,000m elevation gain. Climbing never hurt so good 😁🤪🤣

The fall colours are gorgeous... lots of reds, yellows and oranges. And the sun made Kohana sparkle ✨️ Her new lizardskinscycling gold bar tape matched perfectly.

We had a great lunch on the road with homemade soup and buns/cold cuts and treats. When we finished, there was an amazing homemade lasagna, salad and cookies. Mmm-mmmmmm

The kids cheering us in at the end of the ride were having a blast and made us work a little harder for the last few meters.

Overall, an excellent day on the bike around Bancroft.

  • GCC 2024 is a wrap! Results are in from across Canada...
    The 2024 Challenge Stats:

    Riders: 13,445
    Raised: $7,266,724

Thanks to my very kind, supportive and generous sponsors, (some with me from the very start), I was able to raise $3994.00 this year, bringing my 9 year total to over $24,000!!! I can't thank you enough, but maybe we will together, put an end to this monster!

  • First ride since the Stomach Flu flattened me for a couple of days. Kicked my 🍑 hard.

The sun sets before 7pm now ... Temps are dropping faster than my gears on a downhill ... but it felt sooooo good to get some rubber on the road and spin the legs out .. plus hammer out some tough climbs. I was rewarded with a colourful sunset sky and fresh pavement on Ashburn Road. Just what I needed and just long enough.

  • IT'S THE ANNOUNCEMENT YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR... 👀

We are SO excited to share the final fundraising figure for the 2024 Great Cycle Challenge. Drumroll please... 🥁

YOU have raised an INCREDIBLE $7,266,724 to KICK CANCER’S BUTT = WOOHOO! 🥳💖

The sore legs, the helmet hair, the early morning rides and the massive headwinds were all WORTH IT.

Because your fundraising efforts will support life-changing research into better treatments and cures for childhood cancers. 🙏

Together, we are fighting kids’ cancer to save little lives. 💙

From our kids, their families, and the GCC and SickKids Foundation teams – THANK YOU! 👏😊

    YOU'RE AMAZING! 🙌

  • Alright gang. The final numbers are in. We had a great year. My thanks. greatcyclechallengecanada #gcccanada

  • ATTENTION: 8-year-old Sadie has a message for you! 📣

Sweet Sadie recorded this quick video to say ‘thank you’ to all of our GCC riders who have made this year’s challenge such an incredible success. ❤️

Sadie is a long-time friend of the challenge – we first met her as an ambassador in 2020, and we’ve had the great privilege of following along with her journey throughout the years.

She was first diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in December 2019 at just 4 years old, and bravely endured over 2 years of intensive treatment for the disease.

In June 2022, Sadie was declared cancer-free, but she has since experienced a heart-breaking relapse last December. 💔

Currently, her treatment mainly involves at-home chemotherapy and immunotherapy, which means she has been able to do a lot of “normal” kid things again.

We’re happy to report that she had a super fun summer full of activities like camping and swimming in her grandparents’ pool. 🏊‍♀️

Sadie, we’re cheering you on as you keep kicking cancer’s butt – you beat it once and you’ll do it again! 💪

  • Today is a special day... it's Sadie's 9th birthday! 🥳

Sadly, she was admitted to hospital ON THE DAY OF HER PARTY (last week) due to a neutropenic fever...

But the nurses gave their blessing, they decorated her room, made slime, watched a movie and she had the party in hospital! 🤩

Because NOTHING was going to stop this young lady celebrating her birthday extravaganza... go Sadie! 💪

Sadie was SO happy, and her friends all had a great time. It will be a birthday party to remember for everyone.

Now it's our turn, let's all wish Sadie 'happy birthday' to help her celebrate this special day... HIP, HIP, HOORAY! 🎈

  • First ride since going OTB last Saturday. Legs were ok .. not 100% but good enough. Left wrist and hand are still a little tender.

Zipped out to cyclelife.bike to see elieriviere, the.satanic.mechanic and jerrington67 The wind was nuts ... 24-25 kph out of the East. Lake Ontario was pretty choppy but the mouth of Duffins Creek was calm.

Rode up the Oshawa Creek bike path and watched the salmon still swimming ... and laying eggs and fertilizer. 🫣😉 Lots of dead fish in the Creek.

Despite the wind, it was a gorgeous day. Ideal temps and mainly sunny. And I was all matchy-matchy with my outwaysocks socks .. might as well look good even if I'm not 100% 😁😁

  • Patti just rode in her 4th Great Cycle Challenge, clocking 130km and raising $2,152 to fight kids' cancer! 🚴‍♀️

She is determined to help find a cure to this terrible disease and “end the suffering of these sweet children and their families.”

Patti has lost close friends to cancer over the years, and she carries them in her heart as she pedals each year – Julie, Carol, Fran, Franny, Maggie and Nadine are always riding with her in spirit. ❤

In her words, “these great ladies brought so much joy, love and laughter to my life and I want to honour them by doing this ride.”

Patti, what a beautiful way to pay tribute to your friends. We just know they would be so proud of you. 🥰

Over her 4 years riding in Great Cycle Challenge, Patti has ridden a total of 497km and raised $5,370 to fund vital childhood cancer research and save little lives.

She always makes it a point to personally thank her donors AND remind them of the impact they’re making for kids fighting cancer.

Patti, thank you for being a part of our GCC family – you’re AMAZING! 👏👏

  • 10-year-old Madi rode 257km and raised $6,589 in this year’s challenge… WOW! 😀

Her Grandpa had been riding in GCC for a couple of years before Madi decided to join in the fun. 🧡

She is now building her own impressive legacy in the challenge – this was her 2nd year riding, and she’s raised an all-time total of $11,980 to end childhood cancer and save little lives.

Madi loves helping people AND biking in the summertime, so it’s been a match made in heaven. 😊

Her commitment to funding research for kids fighting cancer has even landed her ‘All-Star’ status and the #2 spot on the leaderboard for her ‘6 – 15 years old’ age category this year = Amazing stuff!

She told us, “The one reason I really wanted to do the challenge was because I don’t think kids should have to fight for their lives… they should be able to have fun, play and just be kids!”

We hear you Madi, loud and clear. 👌

Your support is going to fight kids' cancer to help these brave kids across Canada. Thank you so much. ❤️

Now, let’s all give Madi the biggest virtual HI-FIVE for her epic riding and raising efforts! 🙌
