Little Lanier

Little Lanier lost his battle with brain cancer in July 1961, aged 11. I am riding in his honour. A friend asked me today: "Who is Little Lanier?" Little Lanier was my cousin closest in age to me and also my friend. His battle with cancer was short - less than a year - and traumatic. His death left a hole in my life in many years. Because of the "climate" of the time, I was not allowed to attend his funeral or grieve him in any way. Now, decades later, I am finding my own way to honour his memory and his life, brief though it was, by participating in this ride to support raising funds for research for paediatric cancer.

My Story

This June, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

    Getting practice rides in, discovering new (to me) trails in various parts of Ontario closish to me. I did two rides the last two days and met some fantastic people. One of whom was a senior citizen like me and like me riding an e bike (mine is e peddle assist which means no throttle). We had a great tak on the trail. I pointed to my 2023 jersey and said this was my 9th year on the Challenge and what the Challenge is. He pulled out a bil and handed it to me. My first donation other than my self donation when I registered. I was thrilled. Actually I'm stilled thriled. I am problems uploading pictures at the moment so no picture of that ride.
