I'm Riding For
Mike Rolfe
I am dedicating this year’s ride to my son Mike, who turns 18 this November. As you can see, cycling first brought him joy at an early age. If he was well enough, I know that Mike would surely have ridden with me his year. Mike’s struggles began with a diagnosis of Cystic Fibrosis at age 2, and I see many parallels to the stories of children diagnosed with juvenile cancer. Just like Cancer, CF doesn’t fight fair, and I hope that you will join our team this month in raising funds for cancer research and treatment.
My Story
This is my fourth year of riding in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! I have dedicated my participation to various people, including Emma Cummings, who passed away shortly after I registered for my second year’s ride. No family should have to say goodbye to their 19 year-old!
This year, I’m dedicating my ride to my son Mike.
Why am I riding again this year? Because the number of children who are diagnosed with cancer continues to rise, and it still kills more Canadian children than any other disease.
Children should be celebrating life, not fighting for it. I am raising funds through my challenge to raise awareness, help these kids and support SickKids Foundation so they can continue their work in finding a cure for childhood cancer.
Please Donate now. Let your contribution save lives and give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Thank you.

Pedaling on…
15 Aug 2024183km out of 500 so far, most of them ridden this week during our camping vacation in Northern Ontario. I’m grateful to my wife Betty, for giving me so much time to focus on this challenge. Donations are starting to add up, and I hope that you will join me TODAY in spreading the word and raising funds to fight this awful disease!

London to St Thomas
6 Aug 2024Yesterday, I set off to visit my friend Chris, who was recently hospitalized in St Thomas because of edema and other concerns.
The ride was… …interesting, thanks to numerous road closures and other roadwork. My faithful Gazelle served me well, even though it’s not really designed or equipped as a gravel bike.
Still, it was great to catch up with Chris, and clock my first 48km towards this year’s Great Cycle Challenge!
