My Story
Hello!
Through the month of August, I am going to try and ride 500km in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Let’s get real for a second: cancer sucks. 19 years ago I lost my mother after a brave 6 year battle with cancer. Although she lost her battle she left a legacy of strength and perseverance for us to follow. And right now, more Canadian kids lose their lives to cancer than any other disease. After watching my mom battle cancer I can only imagine what these kids go through. If riding my bike rain, heat or shine can help, it’s the least I can do. Let’s help some kids!
Last year this ride also hit close to home. On "Donation Match Day" I received in the mail the story of Benjamin. Benjamin was 4 years old (now 5) and fighting a rare cancer called Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis. Complicated name I know, but it made me pause for a second. I googled it and found that it is the same cancer I had as a baby but a different name. If you are wondering, yes it made me feel old that the cancer I had as a kid has gone through a rebranding. Anyway, I had it removed when I was 6 months old. Stressful for my parents I am sure but nothing like the fight Benjamin is doing! This made the ride mean so much more. We are riding and donating for kids like Benjamin!
My goal is to raise funds to help these brave kids and their families as they face the scariest time of their lives.
