Actual date for this ride has been set for August 22, 2026 and the actual route is still a bit undetermined, as it is dependent on the bridge on the Veterans Walkway being completed! Completion date was for May 2026, so I am hoping by ride date it should be done! Ride will be more street riding, with a portion being on a trail. Distance of ride will probably be 20 kilometers approximately, with the option for riders to do more if they choose.
Details of ride still to be worked out, but this is a fun ride and I would encourage you to check it out, We will do lunch together as a group at a local bakery, as we have done in past years when this was known as Trans Canada Trail Group ride.

So, most of my time has been used to fundraise this year, and I haven't been as motivated to do the cycling. Roads seem to be more dangerous, and perhaps my age has a little something to do with the safety aspect of things as well. This morning I met my friend Corrie in Tillsonburg so that we could scout out a nice ride for the upcoming Tillsonburg Group Ride. It was a lovely ride that we did in a leisurely fashion.....no rushing, but just enjoying the scenery along the way. Some beautiful homes along the way to see.....and no gravel riding at all!!!! The ride from the parking lot to Makkink's Flower Farm and Bakery was 10.9 kilometers. A great cup of coffee with a lemon square and a chat with the owner, and we were off to the parking lot again. For our group ride there are a few options. After lunch, for those wanting to get some more kilometers, the option exists to cycle on the TransCanada Trail to Highway 59 and back to the parking lot (34 km from parking lot to Highway 59), or you can go back the same way we came (total kilometers would be 21.8 kilometers) or a ride on the first part of the TransCanada Trail back to the parking lot would be the shortest ride for a total of 14.5 kilometers. The choice is yours. But the cycling will all be paved this year, unless you opt to go to Highway 59 and back....then from the bakery to the highway and back will be on gravel. It's a lovely ride though and we thoroughly enjoyed it. For those planning to join in the group ride, please remember to sign up on the Group Ride page of the GCC site. I have a potential group ride date now! August 22, 2026 is a Saturday which could possibly allow more participation since it’s not a work day for many! If the forecast is very negative for that day, we could reschedule for the following Wednesday, Thursday or Friday! I don’t have any new details as yet but I am waiting for the Veterans Trail bridge to be completed so I can take my bike down to Tillsonburg and check out the potential new route. I believe the route will be a bit shorter this year, although you could do more kilometers if you chose to do so, but the new route will be almost all paved cycle route through some subdivisions and very little on a busier thoroughfare!
