Meet Chloe

12-year-old Chloe is a smart, witty, curious young lady who has been bravely fighting rhabdomyosarcoma since August 2025.

Last year, shortly after returning from a month-long family trip in the Northwest Territories, Chloe noticed an unusual feeling in her jaw. Soon after, a small pimple-like bump appeared on the inside of her mouth.

Between May and late July 2025, Chloe was seen by a local health centre, a dentist, an oral surgeon, and the local emergency department… but her symptoms were not improving, and her family still had no clear answers.

As the swelling continued to grow, Chloe travelled to Ontario with her family and was admitted to SickKids on July 28. Further testing revealed a heartbreaking diagnosis.

On August 1, 2025, Chloe was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma of the left check.

To prepare for treatment, she underwent surgery on August 11 to preserve one ovary and have a chest port placed.

She started chemotherapy the very next day, kicking off an 18-month treatment plan involving 14 total cycles of chemotherapy. Once 4 cycles were completed, Chloe’s tumour had reduced in size enough to allow for surgery, which took place on November 3, 2025.

Surgeons removed the tumour and tumour bed, and then performed reconstructive flap surgery to rebuild her left cheek.

Unfortunately, the pathology results from the surgery showed positive margins. This signifies that cancer cells were found at the edge of the tissue removed, meaning some of the tumour may still be present. Chloe’s care team recommended additional radiation based on these results, so she underwent five weeks of proton radiation treatment in Jacksonville earlier this year.

This incredibly strong and resilient girl has now completed 9 of 14 planned chemo infusions, as well as radiation. She has endured bumps in the road like trips to the emergency room for RSV, COVID, and a localized infection at her surgical site.

While she’s not enrolled in a formal clinical trial, Chloe is contributing to multiple research initiatives through SickKids and actively helping advance understanding and care for future patients.

Chloe’s loved ones and her whole care team know her as observant and smart, with a sharp wit and a thoughtful nature. She loves to immerse herself in creative projects, guided by her boundless curiosity. She loves arts, crafts, baking, drama, photography, and skiing, and she’s a huge fan of The Simpsons – she often rewatches her favourite episodes.

Chloe continues to receive active treatment and is often at SickKids as a day patient or attending clinic visits for chemo, blood work, and monitoring.

We’re riding for YOU this August, Chloe! You’re an inspiration!
