My Story
Cancer isn’t unfamiliar to our family, and when my wife stumbled upon this challenge several years ago, we participated. I had never participated in any challenges/fundraisers before, so I set a healthy goal of 300kms and achieved it.
Having navigated the pandemic, and several health challenges of my own, I am recovering and ready to once again, ride for the fight against kids' cancer. This time, I’m eager to meet and exceed my previous goals, and help bring awareness.
My nephew Thomas wasn’t a child when cancer took him from us, but he still left us way too early. I’ll be doing this challenge in memory of him. Were he here today, I’m sure I’d have no trouble convincing him to hop on a bike and do this challenge with me, for others!
So this August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
I’ll be raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Last Ride with Felix
31 Aug 2024Decided to have one last ride with Felix this morning, to finish off the GCC for the year! He managed 10km today, and did a great job! I am sure we'll put on lots of miles next year.

Hit my goal!
29 Aug 2024Well I hit my 200km goal, and Felix joined me for the last few miles to hit his goal too! I can't post the screen shots from both rides, but he joined me for 2.27 miles on my second ride.
We might try and sneak in one more ride Saturday, but I'm glad we hit our goals this year, and could do our part.

28 Aug 2024Well I got in a long ride today, and a short one with a partner. My oldest boy decided to take a short ride with me this afternoon, and we are going to start a GCC page for him, to count it as his first year. He got almost 4km on his first ride!

Ride 3 & Some Milestones
16 Aug 2024Well, I logged almost 37 km today for the GCC, just a few kms short of my halfway mark. I also hit a few personal milestones since I started biking in 2020. Today, I had my longest bike ride in both duration and distance, and I also completed my longest segment without stopping. Not too shabby for an old, fat guy! Haha.
On to the next 100 km, and maybe more?? We’ll see!
