Rebecca Schofield (#beccatoldmeto)

On February 17th 2018 a young girl by the name of Rebecca Schofield ended her battle with brain cancer at the young age of 18 years old. She has left an amazing legacy behind her that has forever inspired me to spread more joy in as many ways I can. I continue this June with The Great Cycle Challenge and will be dedicating my participation in honour of the Rebecca Schofield movement of #beccatoldmeto and encouraging others to continue spreading acts of kindness. Each and every kilometre I ride this year is for the children living with and who have lost their lives to cancer. The more awareness we raise the closer we will be to a life without the flight.

My Story

This June, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

  • Something Different. GCC 2019!
    14 May 2019

This years Great Cycle Challenge is going to be done a little differently then previous years and I’m here to tell you how.

Before I talk about this year though I will give you a recap of my story. In February 2017 I had the opportunity to meet Rebecca Schofield, a young person who was battling terminal brain cancer. The message that Rebecca was spreading however, during the time that she was living with cancer, was acts of kindness, in short through #beccatoldmeto This quickly became a message that spread worldwide and something I was indeed inspired by. After having met Rebecca and helping to spread her message, I registered for my first ever cycling challenge to support Sick Kids Foundation. It was The Great Cycle Challenge to be exact and it was something I stumbled upon and thought immediately #beccatoldmeto This was how I was going to help make a difference and make the world a better place.

In 2017 I raised just over $1,300 and rode a total of 228km on my unicycle in support of this amazing charity Sick Kids.

In 2018 I set a goal to raise $2,600 and ride 400km and I ended up smashing that dollar figure and finished with just over $5,000 for Sick Kids. I also met my 400km riding goal with a few kilometers over.

This year 2019 I have set a goal to raise $5000 since that’s what I accomplished last year. I have however, increased my riding goal by 100km to a total of 500km for the month of June. Ambitious? Yes. Possible? Most definitely. With that being said let me tell you why this year will be different.

On May 31st, the eve of the Great Cycle Challenge, I will be taking the Via Rail train from Toronto via Montreal all the way to Moncton, New Brunswick. The reason behind this destination is found 10min south of Moncton in the town of Riverview. This is where Rebecca Schofield lived and will be the starting point for my 500km unicycle adventure. I will also be riding in Montreal, Ottawa, Kingston, Toronto and many more cities which I will be sharing closer to the date. I have already planned the first half of my month and have some ideas for the second half that I am still working out the details for.

I wanted to do something different this year that allowed me to connect with more people and continue to spread Rebecca’s message of acts of kindness while raising money for the amazing charity that is Sick Kids.

To date I have raised $1,305 of my $5,000 goal and am very confident that come next month the support will begin to grow as I embark on this challenge.

I ride in honor of the late Rebecca Schofield whose life affected so many and continues to inspire people worldwide.
