I'm Riding For

Arlene Mulder Papaioannou

Arlene Mulder Papaioannou

This years ride is in memory of my daughter Arlene, who lost her fight in a battle against colon cancer in October 2018💔! While she was no longer a child, she was MY child! This year’s ride is also being dedicated to Baby Ellis (#Ellis Fights) . Please help me to reach my goal of $15,000 or more this year. I’m trusting that I can count on your support again this year....will YOU be the one that pushes my numbers over the top? You sponsor and I will do the biking!

My Story

14 Jul 2022

This year I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer again!

Why? Because right now, over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

My ride in 2021 surpassed my goal of $10,000, so this year my starting goal is $15,000 and will be adjusted as I get closer to my goal. I continue to bike in memory of my daughter, but this year I am dedicating my ride to our local hero, Baby Ellis (#Ellis Fights) (Ellis passed away in March 2022) and riding and fundraising for all those still in the fight. I am hoping that you will continue to support me by sponsoring. YOU SPONSOR AND I WILL DO THE BIKING! Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Please check out my previous years stats in the sidebar on the left bottom of the page....YOU all helped me achieve that and for that I am forever grateful!

Your support will change little lives.

  • GCC 2022 - Day 14
    14 Aug 2022

Could there have been a more perfect day for biking? There was virtually no wind, nor the blazing sun and humidity to make for an uncomfortable ride. Being a Sunday afternoon, the highway is never as busy, so we did a leisurely ride to Woodstock and back! Another 30.5 kilometers in the books today!

  • GCC 2022 - Day 13
    13 Aug 2022

This morning was spent at the Ingersoll Farmer's Market....chatting with people about GCC and gathering donations wherever possible. It was a busy day at the market so I got to make quite a few contacts and got a few more donations. This afternoon we were going to do peach jam, but the peaches need a couple of days yet to be ripe for making jam.....so off on the bike for a short ride and then went to get some corn for the freezer and some for dinner tonight.

Today was a work day for me, so the riding had to wait until after dinner, but I got it done! This afternoon peaches arrived, so peach making should start tomorrow afternoon. If anyone is interested in purchasing, send me a message and we can discuss. In the morning tomorrow, I plan to be at the market again, so maybe I will see some of you there!

  • GCC 2022 - Day 11 - ride with Lezli K.
    12 Aug 2022

This morning Lezli drove down from Thornhill so we could finish up a few transactions, and then do a ride together to check out the group ride planned for August 26, 2022. We headed up "to the highway and back" so she would know where I was riding when I say I am going to the highway and back....not at all what she thought...lol. Then we continued on to ride the planned route for the group ride. We were just heading in from the trailhead (which is about 1/4 mile of walking first, when Martial from North Bay called to say they were in the area, so we walked back out of the trail and met him and his wife Cathy and son's girlfriend Jayden. We had a lovely visit by the Beachville Museum, took some pictures and chatted for a bit. Then they were off again and we headed back to the trail. Like I said, the first section is not conducive to bikes so we walked that and then headed on down the trail. At the end of the trail we backtracked to almost the beginning where we took a little side detour and rested overlooking a small lake. Then back to Ingersoll to another little trail and then back to my house. Lezli agreed that this would be a good group ride so I believe that will be a "go"! We hung out at my house for a bit and then I gave away the last prize package for the Southwest Oxford Tour Package fundraiser which Lezli won. A bit more chit chat and then Lezli was off to head back to the big city. All in all, it was a great day!

  • GCC 2022 - Day 10 (Match Day)
    12 Aug 2022

o say today was a wild day, would be an understatement! Between entering donations, answering calls and emails, and writing thank you messages to my donors, it has been an exhausting day. And beside all that, I am trying to keep my spreadsheets up to date to make sure every donation goes in and that everyone is getting their receipts. I was so busy I didn't even get the chance to get out for a ride today, but since everyone of YOU has been so fantastic, I felt the need to at least do a little of my part today, so after dinner I managed a quick ride of 9.2 kilometers. Now time to sit back and relax with a cup of tea!
