I'm Riding For
Sam
Seems weird to ride for myself, but I was a kid who had chemotherapy for a year, and now I'm happy to be just a kid!
My Story
In 2017, when I was 5, I got hurt when wrestling with my big brother. It turned out to be an irregular break in a vertebrae, and after a biopsy, that break turned out to be from Langerhans Cell Histiocystosis. Maybe the only time ever a broken back is a lucky break. Without it, who knows how long it would have been before my LCH was caught.
This was a really scary time for all of us. I had a 2 week stay in Kingston General Hospital, where I had a ton of procedures, tests, and the diagnosis in that time. Mom hardly left my side.
4 days later I had my first chemo treatment.
I met a lot of kids in my year of chemo treatments. Not all of them made it through.
It has been nearly 6 years since my last chemo treatment. My vertebrae are healing well, and I am No Eevidence of Disease!
My mom and my stepdad Jack have been riding in this challenge since 2018. I started in this challenge in 2023!
