My Story
A WORD FROM OUR FOUNDER
A little over a decade ago, right after Christmas season, our family was brought to its knees by a devastating news. My young niece was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma -- a fast-growing, cancerous brain tumor that starts in the cerebellum, the lower back part of the brain that controls balance and coordination. It is the most common malignant brain tumor in children.
While it was a really dark moment, it also was a time the Canadian health system proved to be a beacon of hope, writing an indelible chapter in our stories as immigrants.
The doctors, therapists, nurses, admin staff -- and other patients who are also going through their own ordeal yet were selfless enough to still give encouragement -- underscored the reason why we all chose this country.
This month, I signed up for the Great Cycle Challenge Canada's fundraising to help support the battle against youth cancer. I've had many demons to face myself in the past, and the joy of cycling and fitness in general, has always helped me pull through.
If the Toronto Popcorn Company can be part of global events promoting glitz and glamour on the red carpets and stages of the film industry, there's no way under my watch that we won't support advocacies supporting the noble fight against cancer and mental health.
Today is day 1. I've knocked down a little over 18 kms today on my goal of finishing 400 kms in 30 days. While logging the miles gives me satisfaction seeing my own resilience and fortitude, nothing would beat the joy of being able to raise funds for the cause in our own little way. We're not a huge company, and probably would't be able to do a dollar-to-dollar match that most of them do.
However, should you have the time and the monetary resources to support the goal - a mere $1,000 in 30 days - I will personally make sure that you're part of the Toronto Popcorn Co.'s inner circle of all things fun and rewarding ❤️
All the best,
Joseph (the Dreamer) 😉
