My Story

14 Jun 2026

This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, over 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

Ian

Ride Number Five – Going the Distance 🚴‍♂️💪

Ride number five for the Great Canadian Cycle Challenge was a big one!

Today’s ride took me out from Ottawa and through the beautiful rural roads south of the city. With 113.79 km under the wheels, 341 metres of elevation gain, and an average speed of 25.9 km/h, this was definitely a ride that tested the legs.

I spent 4 hours and 22 minutes actually riding, with an average heart rate of 136 bpm and nearly 3,700 active calories burned. The effort was rated Hard — 7/10, and I could certainly feel it by the end!

But every kilometre is worth it when the goal is bigger than the ride. I’m riding to help fight kids’ cancer, support the incredible work behind the Great Canadian Cycle Challenge, and hopefully make a difference for kids and families facing something no child should have to go through.

    Ride #5: 113.79 km complete.

The legs are tired, but the motivation is stronger than ever. 🚴‍♂️❤️

Ride Number Four – Great Canadian Cycle Challenge

Today’s ride was a little different—and even better because I got to share it with Christine. ❤️

We took our mountain bikes out and tackled a trail around the Greater Madawaska area, enjoying the scenery, the challenge, and most importantly, each other’s company.

We covered 24.56 km, with 115 metres of elevation gain. The pace was slower than some of my other rides, but today wasn’t about speed—it was about getting out there, exploring, laughing, and making memories together.

Every ride brings me one step closer to my goal of helping fight childhood cancer. 🎗️

Ride #4 complete. 24.56 km for the kids!

  • RIDE NUMBER THREE
    8 Aug 2026

Ride number three is in the books! Today I took on 34.15 km through Ottawa, taking in some incredible views along the way.

The best part of today’s ride was simply being outside and enjoying the route—from the Rideau River and Hog’s Back to Dow’s Lake, the Glebe, and through the heart of Ottawa. 🚴‍♂️🌳☀️

Every kilometre is another kilometre toward an important goal: helping fight childhood cancer through the Great Canadian Cycle Challenge. 💛

34.15 km down. More to come. Let’s keep riding for the kids! 🎗️

Ride #2 is in the books, and it reminded me why I signed up for the Great Canadian Cycle Challenge.

Today’s ride took me 51.1 km through Ottawa, and while every kilometre helps raise money to fight kids’ cancer, today was also about slowing down enough to appreciate the journey. The weather couldn’t have been much better—comfortable temperatures, a light breeze, and plenty of sunshine made it one of those rides where you never want to turn back toward home.

The route offered some incredible views along the Ottawa River, through city parks, and across quiet roads. It’s easy to get caught up watching speed or distance, but today I found myself looking around more, taking in the scenery, and simply enjoying being out on the bike.

There’s something special about knowing that every pedal stroke has a purpose. Riding isn’t just helping me become stronger—it’s helping raise awareness and funds for children and families facing cancer. That’s what keeps me motivated every time I clip in.

Thank you to everyone who has supported, donated, or cheered me on so far. Your encouragement means a lot, and it’s helping fuel every ride.

My First Ride for Kids Fighting Cancer

Today was more than just another bike ride—it was my first ride as part of the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids’ cancer.

I set out from Ottawa with one goal: to make every kilometre count for children and families facing a battle no child should ever have to fight.

By the end of the day, I had ridden 115.5 km in 4 hours and 46 minutes, averaging 24.2 km/h with 416 metres of climbing. There were moments when the ride felt tough, but every hill reminded me why I was out there. Compared to what these kids endure, pushing through a little fatigue was an easy choice.

This ride wasn’t about setting a personal record. It was about hope, determination, and doing something meaningful for children who deserve the chance to grow up healthy.

This is only the beginning. Every ride this month is dedicated to those fighting cancer, and every donation helps fund life-saving research and support for families.

Thank you to everyone who has encouraged me, donated, or cheered me on. Together, we’re turning kilometres into hope—one pedal stroke at a time. 🚴💛🎗️
