This August, I am taking part in an open-water swim fundraiser to fight cancer and support critical research!

​Why? Because my dad has myeloma, and I’ve seen firsthand how a cancer diagnosis completely upends a family. But I am also doing this because cancer doesn't spare anyone—including the most vulnerable among us. Right now, over 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it remains the leading cause of death from disease in Canadian children.

​Whether it is a parent fighting a complex disease like myeloma, or a child fighting for their very first milestones, no one should have their life stolen by cancer. Kids should be out living life, playing, and just being kids—not fighting for their lives in a hospital bed.

​To help fuel the research needed to find a cure for both adults and children, I will be swimming alongside a dedicated group from Port Stanley Main Beach to the cliffs of Erie’s Rest and back. Every single stroke forward is a stubborn refusal to sit still in the face of this disease.

​I am raising funds through this challenge to support the incredible work being done to develop better treatments, extend lives, and ultimately find a cure.
