2023 marks my eighth year participating in the Great Cycle Challenge Canada in which riders and donors work together to raise funds to defeat kids' cancers. Three years ago I was honoured to start participating as a GCC champion, and starting a team of like-minded family and friends all dedicated to supporting this cause.

Why do I ride? Because right now, over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

My first ride — and all rides — were inspired by Audrey, the granddaughter of a dear friend, who was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS). Her diagnosis and treatment took a huge toll on this girl, her family and all those loved her. I learned just how many medical professionals, resources and treatments are needed to support the journey of just one child. Audrey was one of those 1400 kids diagnosed and she is still with us, living a good life, and supported by a dedicated team.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds to help these kids and to support the SickKids Foundation in their efforts to develop treatments and find a cure for childhood cancers.

And this year, I look forward to once again biking in a team — this year called #TeamPedalPack once again — and joining other committed riders in leading the charge in our local communities across Canada as we unite together to fight kids' cancers!
