Mommy

Just weeks after being diagnosed with cancer, my mom passed away. She raised 7 teenagers on her own and looking back, I'm not sure how she survived us. She gives me the strength to realize that we can do anything, if we put our mind to it. January 7th, 2012 feels like yesterday and I miss you like crazy mom.

My Story

19 Jul 2023

2023 is my 8th consecutive year fundraising for KID'S CANCER and to date my sponsors have raised an amazing $15,109.22. Two days before signing up for this years fundraiser, I was informed that I have Breast Cancer. My fundraising has always been in memory of my mom, but now I am reaching out to her to make everything OK for me.

Here's a little story that I would like to share. In January, I called my doctor's office to book a mammogram, but because I wasn't due for a year, it was declined. I didn't accept no and continued to call. After the 3rd call, the receptionist finally asked the doctor and he said, 'just book her a mammogram'. I don't know why, but I knew I needed it. That appointment turned into 2 mammograms, a biopsy, and 2 lumpectomies. On May 30th, I was told that I have Breast Cancer and that there was nothing for me to feel to find this cancer and if I had waited a year, it definitely would have spread.

Thankfully on July 12th, I was informed that the cancer did not spread and is gone. It was just 44 days from the time I was told I had cancer to the time I was told it was gone, but it felt like forever. Talking about it was extremely difficult, I prepared for the worst by immediately updating my will, but begged for the best. The fear was truly overwhelming. I am well aware of how lucky I am, as I begin the next stage of treatment.

No matter how hard this has been for me, it is nothing compared to the pain a parent must be going through when their young child has cancer.

Instead of riding this year, I will be walking so that I can continue to fundraise to support Kids Cancer. If you are able, please donate and/or share my link to help fight Kids Cancer.
