My Story

7 Aug 2024

This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, over 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

  • What a Start!

    My 5th year in the GCC snuck up on me quick! Didn't realize we were nearly into August when I was getting emails of this amazing event starting once again.

    Quickly gave my Specialized Fatboy a tune-up as I hadn't really ridden much since Paris to Ancaster... last year. 😅 Lucky for my, all my reliable as rain Shimano SLX gear was right where I left it.

    Started things off with a small self donation, a couple of quick 14km rides, and getting my word out there that I'm here this month to help SickKids in their battle against childhood cancer.

    The last few years hadn't been fantastic as I always had something pretty big come up in August, but this year is different. Having lost 40 lbs from this past January to April, I was on a streak of fitness and eating well. Things died down in the last few months, so definitely using this as motivation to get back at it.

    Looking to do at least 10k a day every day hence the 300km. Looking to hopefully hit 400, and maybe even 500 if I can muster up a few Brantford to Hamilton rides on the weekends.
