My Story

21 Jun 2026

This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, over 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

I am almost out of music. It's so interesting to know what the purpose of music plays in someone's life. Some people play instruments and are artists themselves and others find some good and some unfortunate ways to become connected to similar experiences. Afterall, Apolo was renowned as a god for a good reason.

I only wonder what his opinions might in the messages behind some lyrics nowadays.

I think the biggest tragedy in music is when you are listening to beautiful rhythms of metronomes or the soul behind a voice that almost immediately reduces into the worst form of verbal expression in form of lyrics.

    How silly.

This marks the first longer ride. I have always been fascinated by how cyclists do this everyday on their adventures carrying tents packs and gear.

The greatest challenge to larger volumes is definitely boredom or a depleting intrinsic motivation. I took my sweet time.

Not quite sure what's going on with the watts. Perhaps this after I reset the resistance dial. Not sure. Regardless it was a good second ride even at 0 watts and 0 rpm 😂 Thank-you to my spin instructors for the motivation and helping me reach my goal for the day.

Almost there. Less than halfway now.

Back to logging in a few more after a week break. Have some kms to make up for. Average distance has increased from 16k to 29k per day.

A heavy one yesterday. Sometimes the mind wanders into some boxes of the mind that haven't been open in a while. Haven't been open for good reasons as justice feels farther than light years and the empty void grows and engulfs me from time to time. So maybe you listen to some poets, and musicians of their perspectives, of their fights, and struggles. Nothing that feels fitting and neither do I see myself as the muse of that genre. The search kept part of the ride busy as the km of the indoor bike spun keeping myself distracted from spiralling into the past. Ultimately to opt in for a quiet bus ride home.

Nothing much to say for this one. Every day counts. Just pedaling for those kms.

Insightful to observe how intensity influences calories burned. The concept of METS standardizes these intensity levels from sedentary to vigorous activity in 3 to 21 metabolic equivalent of tasks to make tracking of whatever variable simple across the range of physical activity.

Intensity influences energy and metabolic output. In this case the focus is calories in relation to RPE. For instance, this ride was approximately 3 times less the effort rating at an RPE of 6 compared to my output on August 2nd! You can have greater calories burned in 40 to 50 minutes riding 17km to 19km compared to lower intensity, same range of distance, and for a longer duration.

What does that mean in application? During aerobic glycolysis and fatty acid oxidation states of longer bouts of aerobics, the body optimizes it's caloric burn from a combination of glucose and fats stores with muscle mitochondria and liver glycogen being a reservoir of macromolecules that turn to ATP, CO2 and water( sweat).

For varying metabolic conditions, tapping into these reservoirs is not always as easy as calories in calories out.

So I play with my intensities and resistance, and highly recommend it if you have time. In addition to appropriate nourishment, the variation in intensity is important to have as we progress through our lifespan. A balance of parasympathetic facilitators and sympathetic responses govern our heart rate variability that maintains the structural integrity of our vasculature.

Lastly, considering this cycling is for cancer. I want to state that I strongly believe in the ketogenic diet. As strict as it is, it is not for the faintest of heart. Speaking of heart, it is super important to keep an eye on those triglycerides if you are on the diet. I am trying to get on the ketone train and make it a lifestyle, but the gears have not shifted easily. Perhaps, it in need of more oil. Hah!

Thank you for your attention span.

    RPE was a 6

    Calories burned 190kcal

Peddling for volume! Thanks to my rave ride Spin instructor who has a lot of trust in the bike was grooving to her beat and I can't thank her enough for her energy. I was just happy being able to reach my goal for the day and get out of there one peice. Not very groovy on the bike, but that's okay.

I learned humility this week. I learned that I may know how to peddle with some intention, but my dance moves need improvement.
