This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! Why? Because right now, over 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada. I am raising funds through my challenge to support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for cancer.

For me, this challenge is also a deeply personal one. Last year was my first time participating, and at the time I was riding in support of my mother, Josée, who was fighting a difficult battle with stage 4 GI and breast cancers.

A lot has changed since that challenge. In December, I lost my mom, and this year I will be riding in her memory. Losing her has left a hole in my world - she was my best friend, and part of the reason why I am riding this year is to ensure that no other family has to go through the same thing.

This challenge will be filled with many unique adventures, including going from Toronto to Ottawa to Quebec (nearly 1000km) over 5 days. This will be a big chunk of my 1800km goal, and one of the rides (to Kingston) will be more than 280km in one day! My mom had always been a beacon of strength and resilience in my life, and I will be drawing on some of that strength to push me through these rides.
