Why I Ride

This August marks my 9th year participating in the Great Cycle Challenge, riding to help end childhood cancer.

Last year, I proudly completed 642 km. This year, I've challenged myself to ride 726 km throughout August. Every kilometre represents hope for children bravely fighting cancer and for their families who face this journey with incredible courage.

For years, I have ridden because I believe every child deserves the chance to laugh, play, dream, and grow up healthy. No child should have to spend their childhood in hospitals instead of on playgrounds.

This year, my ride has become even more personal.

In April, after a routine screening, I received a letter from BC Cancer indicating abnormal results. I am now waiting for additional testing later this year. Living with this uncertainty has given me a deeper appreciation for the fear and anxiety that families of children with cancer experience every day.

Yet, it has only strengthened my resolve.

I will continue to ride, placing my trust in God and praying for healing, not only for myself, but for every child facing this devastating disease. As a clinical counsellor, I have devoted my life to helping children, families, and individuals through life's most difficult moments. Supporting this cause is another way I can make a difference.

In Canada, more than 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year. Together, we can help fund vital research and better treatments that give these young warriors hope for a brighter future.
