Sharaful Huq

Growing up I always perceived cancer to be an illness suffered only by adults. I was 15 years old when I first learned about cancer in children. A very close friend of mine lost her 10 year old brother to cancer and I witnessed the pain felt by their family. His name was Sharaf and I would see his pictures around their house, thinking how this disease created an empty space in that house. While treatment for cancer in children have come a long way since then, however, more can be done to prevent families from experiencing a loss like Sharaf’s family did.

My Story

Since volunteering my time at Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario(CHEO), I am continuing my efforts to help children by riding to raise funds for SickKids Foundation, so they can continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

So, this August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year. One of the leading causes of death in children.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
