I'm taking part in this challenge because over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada!

After not riding much for 2 years, I rode 1,008 km for this challenge in 28 days in 2019, I had to cut my ride short after suffering a concussion, soft tissue damage and whiplash in an unrelated incident! Luckily I passed my goal of 1,000 km the day of the incident. My longest single day ride that year was 122.1 kms, breaking my 20 year old personal best of 121 kms! In 2020, after a cycling accident preparing for this ride, I suffered another concussion and a broken rib which put my riding to an end for a while. I've gotten out for short rides every year since, but nothing compared to 2019!

So, it's 2024 and I've set my goal this year at 1,008 km. Riding 1,008 km in August won't be easy but it's nothing compared to the challenges these kids face. Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
