I'm Riding For
Linda Sullivan & Meaghan Sullivan
Ten years ago, I rode in the Great Cycle Challenge in her memory. Ten years (and about 30 pounds) later, I’m clipping back in and doing it again. Cancer’s impact on our family didn’t end with my mom. In 2019, my sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, it has spread to her brain and other parts of her body, and she now lives with Stage 4 cancer. Through it all, she has faced every challenge with incredible courage, resilience, and determination. I admire her deeply, and in so many ways, I see my mom in her. Over the last decade, the Sullivan clan has grown. We have more kids, more memories, and more reasons to appreciate how precious time with the people you love really is. Losing my mom and watching my sister battle cancer has given me a glimpse into how cruel this disease can be. As a parent, I can’t imagine hearing the words that your child has cancer, or watching them endure treatments, uncertainty, and fear. No child should have to fight that battle, and no family should have to walk that road alone. Cancer is unapologetic. It doesn’t discriminate. It doesn’t care who you are, where you come from, or how old you are. That’s why this ride matters to me. This August, I’ve committed to riding 1,000 kilometres and raising $1,500 through the Great Cycle Challenge to help fight childhood cancer. For me, this ride is about more than the kilometres or the fundraising. It’s a chance to spend time on the bike thinking about my mom, the legacy she left behind, and the strength, kindness, and perseverance that continue to live on through our family and our children. I’ll be posting updates throughout August so you can follow along with the journey.
