Eli Handlsperger

Eli is the nephew of my daughter's friend and I have been following his battle with cancer for over 5 years. Eli is a 6 year old currently in remission (2 years) from Hepatoblastoma. He was diagnosed at 13 months old in the Sick Kids ER with a large tumor growing from the left lobe of his liver. Eli did chemo and had a liver resection surgery to remove the tumor. Sick Kids helped Eli's Mom and Dad navigate the world of being oncology parents. Eli went into remission but relapsed about 1 year later. Sick Kids came to the rescue again, coming up with new chemo regimes and providing the best surgeon they could have ever asked. Eli had more than 25 chemo infusions, 12 radiation treatments, blood infusions, and countless CT’s and MRI’s. Eli is living his life thanks to Sick Kids and cancer research.

My Story

This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, over 1,700 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

I am riding for all children fighting cancer but also for a very special 6 year old, Eli Handlsperger.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.
