Last year I took part in the Heart and Stroke Foundation Ride for Heart. I mean, I’m a Research Coordinator in a Cardiac Rehab program, so duh, right? Well, kinda.

While I have a professional connection to Heart Disease, I have too many personal connections to Cancer. Thankfully (?!?) mostly in people older than me. My Dad. My Godmother. Then my cousin. Then partners of friends. We will all suffer the almost unbearable loss of our elders and our peer group. It sucks, but eventually we all die. The ones who live on are the unlucky ones who survive to mourn and remember.

Then Cancer started coming after the kids of friends. Kids. I have said it before: No one should outlive their children. To me, it’s unfathomable. But to others it’s their unbearable reality. Our old neighbour's daughter, Emma, just came out the other side of treatment for Leukemia. And hopefully never again.

This year I'm hoping you will support my participation in the Great Cycling Challenge to raise funds to help kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing cancer treatments . My journey will conclude with Ironman Canada, a serendipitous coincidence. Their journey may never end. So FU Cancer.
