Kellan
March of 2025 Kellan was diagnosed with retinoblastoma (cancer of the retina) and we were thrust into a world filled with doctors, and 9hour drives to bc children’s hospital every month (or more) A year and some change later, his prognosis is good and we’re moving to monitoring his tumour for any regrowth (he’ll have to monitor it for the rest of his life) Now I’m moving into trying to educate others and bring awareness to this type of cancer - it’s incredibly rare, and something like 10 kids in Canada are diagnosed with it each year. Our family has received so much help and support throughout our journey, and I just hope we can start to give back to the community that has given us so much.
My Story
This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? Because over this last year, I became the mom of a child with cancer.
I know just how taxing this journey is for families, and how much things like this mean for raising awareness and finding funding to improve outcomes and find cures.
If you’ve ever met Kellan, you know he’s truly a force of nature and that his prognosis is a good one - but I know there are so many other kids that simply don’t have the incredible luck that we’ve had.
I’m so happy to be able to participate in this again, and though my profile doesn’t show it I’ve completed this 3 other times in the past (I lost access to that previous account) but the impact remains, and that’s the goal.
Thank you to everyone that shares this, donates, or simply brings awareness to the cause - your support means so much to me, and it’ll keep me going on those long rides, when my feet and hands are numb, and my backside hurts 😅
