Kallie Swan my niece a survivor and my sister and father both taken by Cancer

Kallie is now 5 yrs old and has been through a long year of treatment since being diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). A type of cancer of the blood and bone marrow. She has another year of treatment ahead of her, before being able to ring the bell for her last treatment. We all wish her well as she fights and continues this challenge with her caring family. I dedicate my ride again this year to Kallie Swan my great niece. She will be with me on every ride.

My Story

It surprises me a bit when I look to back to early 2017 when, with time on my hands and, a bike hanging in the garage that I wondered what I might do with my spare time. It wasn't long before someone suggested the Great Cycle Challenge and the adventure began. I know that I have logged a total of 4,482 km in the last 8 Augusts for the GCC and probably the same amount getting ready in prep and casual riding in that time. I am surprised by that but, nothing compared to the donations that donors send in every year for this important program. To date, I have raised $29,843 and every year I am excited and impressed by the support that comes in for this important effort. To all of you that support the Great Cycle Challenge, Thank you.

Every year there are new treatments and breakthroughs. As too many of us understand through direct and indirect contact, cancer can be a vicious disease and every dollar donated helps. Whether for supportive care for a young child the next generation of research every donated helps.

I will add that sometimes while riding the roadways and trails the rides get easier when I pause and think of the good that is possible from support that rides with me from donors that care. If you are in Guelph in August I would love to have your company on a ride.

Great Cycle Challenge 2026

Today the riding begins in earnest. 500km and 31 days to do it in. Today's initial ride of 19.7km. was a good start. The heat & humidity are rising again. The effort is worth it. As dollarsraised go to help fight children fight the cancer every day.
