Fred Pye
I'm dedicating this year's Great Cycle Challenge ride to the memory of my dad. Cancer took him far too soon, and not a day goes by that I don't wish he were still here to see his family, his grandchildren, and the life we've built. Losing him taught me just how devastating this disease can be. Every kilometre I ride this August is in his memory and in support of children who deserve the chance to grow up, make memories with their families, and live long, healthy lives. Dad, this ride is for you.
My Story
This August, I'm once again taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge Canada to fight kids' cancer.
Cancer has touched my family in a very personal way. I lost both my dad and my grandmother to this disease, and I know the heartbreak that cancer leaves behind.
Today, that loss hits me differently because I'm also a parent.
I can't begin to imagine what it would be like to watch one of my own children fight cancer. No parent should have to hear those words, and no child should have to spend their days in hospitals instead of on playgrounds, riding bikes, or making memories with their family.
That's why this August I've committed to riding 300 kilometres and raising $2,500 for SickKids Foundation to support life-saving childhood cancer research and care.
Cycling has become an important part of my own journey back to health this year, and I'm grateful that every kilometre I ride can help make a difference for children and families facing the fight of their lives.

Together, we can help give these kids the chance to grow up healthy, chase their dreams, and simply enjoy being kids.

Retro vibes?
2 Jul 2026Wore my 2021 Great Cycle Challenge Canada jersey today for the first time in public. Back in 2021 I tried it on and looked like a stuffed sausage in it. 😂
Clean eating and lots of movement got me dropping pounds like my metabolism finally remembered it has a job to do!
Waiting on the 2026 jersey to arrive so I can rock it on my August rides.
