Ethan Hunter
This will be my 8th year taking part in this very worthy cause. With the help and generous donations from all of my awesome sponsors over those years we have been able to raise/contribute over $13,500.00 towards this great ride in support of Kids Cancer.... I again dedicate this year to Ethan, one of my former daycare children who began his fight and struggle from age 14. He received a bone marrow transplant from his father in January 2025, has had some difficult times in most of 2025 and is now currently in remission, he is working on online courses to complete his Grade 12, has his beginner's driver's license and is still recovering but getting stronger and more mobile to be able to attend a delayed Make a Wish Foundation wish that he had received to attend Walt Disney World in Florida with his family. a very much needed reprieve from all that he and his family have been through...Wishing Ethan and his family all the best for his future and their shared journey to the Happiest Place on Earth... Go Ethan! With the help, love, prayers from all of you and all of his family & friends, we can make a difference for him and his family. With the help from all of us we can all contribute in some way to help Ethan and these other children and future children to beat this sickness, get through it and get back to being a kid and enjoying life with their family & friends. And since we all have known many family members & friends who have lived through cancer or died as a result of it, I'd like to think that the help and treatments and research from both the children & adult sectors will be used & shared to help them beat cancer. As a result of all the research & treatment, many cancers have been beaten and as a result there are many survivors that many of us know gain many more years of life!! I'd like to thank everyone who have supported me, helped me, and contributed to this Great Cycle Challenge with me and will appreciate those who get on board with me this year!!!
My Story
This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!
Why? Because right now, over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.
So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.
Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support will change little lives.
Personally, in my lifetime I have seen/witnessed cancer affect at least 3 children that I know.... #1 - my younger brother Perry diagnosed at age 17 with Hogkens Disease (cancer in glands), he survived cancer but died at age 34 due to having his spleen taken at age 18 to prevent cancer which was a factor in his death (no defenses to fight infection/virus he had,….#2. - my cousin's son diagnosed at about age of 2, had lots of difficulties but with lots of family faith & support he survived and at age of about 35 is getting married this year!!, and 3rd is one of the boys of my daycare Ethan who often attended with his brother in the summers while their sister was with me full time until she started school. Ethan got cancer at age 15, a rare form of leukemia I believe and at age 19 he is in remission after a bone marrow transplant in Jan 2025 and is getter stronger, trying to finish completing his Grade 12.....The difficulties, pain & suffering for these children & their families was and has been horrible.....it tests, strains & cripples the life of the family...it is truly not something that any family with children should ever have to endure, that is for sure!!!! And with all of the help, treatments, breakthroughs in cancer treatment there are successes....but I'm sure there are still losses and lots of work to do yet...
