I'm Riding For
Mom & Dad and brother Bruce who all had cancer!
Mom lost her battle to breast cancer and my father at age of 92 with prostate cancer My oldest brother, one of 3, Bruce, lost his battle at 36. Another brother Ward, to ALS and other relatives and friends who lost their battle to cancer or are survivors . Recently I had the honor of meeting a couple on the trail this month, Dylan and his Bride - Kate, you may have seen my post. He is survior of 2 different forms of cancer, at the age of 17 or 19 and then at the age of 27. He knows the Sick Kids for Cancer in Toronto very well. Imagine meeting them on the trail in their wedding attire and then finding out they live in my communtiy. What a tropper and all the blessings to Dylan and his wonderful bride Kate. I also had the privlage to know a 10 year old boy - Joel, from family friends, who fought cancer since he was four. Cancer knows no age and when it hits its one of your biggest battles. It is great to have family and friends that can surround those fighting cancer to meet the many, physical, emotional and other personal needs, along with the health care providers, physicians and research teams. That is why I am doing this. Every year there seems to be more findings through research that has some positive results. One can't give up. Both giving of yourself, raising funds for research, treatments and providing financial support for those in need, along with much prayer is powerful and through these trials, it is of comfort, motivating and hope for a future. A big thank you and virtual hugs for stepping up to the plate and supporting me on the Challenge.
My Story
Throughout this month of August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer! Peddling in the heat and humidity, climbing the hills and just getting up and going is motivated by the reason behind this.
Why? Because right now, over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.
Kids should be living life, not fighting for it. I have had family members (Mom Dad,oldest brother) and now myself just had surgery this past winter for stage 1 diagnosis and had a full hysterectomy, it was found early and am clear to date. So it is even more dear to me to ride this cycle challenge to support the children fighting this terrible disease so they can have a future. Support me on this ride, you are supporting many others needing the medical and emotional help.
I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer. I am 573th place Nationally and 18th in the province and only 228 km left to ride to reach 300km. I am just under $1500 away from reaching my fundraising goal of $2500.
Please support me, be the hero by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.
Your support will change little lives.
Thank you.
