2-year-old Nolan is fighting juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia. His strength and bravery inspire us to ride.

Nolan’s cancer journey started after his first birthday, in June 2022. He began experiencing frequent illnesses, including stubborn infections that prompted rounds of antibiotics.

One November morning, Nolan developed a rash shortly after taking his morning antibiotic. Doctors initially said it could be an allergic reaction or viral illness, but Nolan’s condition did not improve.

Despite multiple visits to local emergency departments, medical professionals couldn’t provide a definitive diagnosis. During this time, Nolan’s rash continued spreading, accompanied by bruising over his body.

Finally, in December, his blood tests revealed the devastating news…

Nolan was diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia (JMML), a rare and aggressive form of childhood leukemia. 

Nolan initially underwent two rounds of chemotherapy in preparation for a bone marrow transplant.

In April 2023, Nolan received his first bone marrow transplant, with his father serving as the donor. Following an extensive period of recovery and monitoring, doctors found that Nolan’s body didn’t accept the cells, which led to a second transplant. 

The second transplant was done as a boost from his father's cells in May.

In July, his family received the news that Nolan’s bone marrow and blood cells were officially 100% of his father’s cells. This meant Nolan was able to go home, and he was doing really well. 

Despite the initial signs of progress, after nearly six months at home, Nolan's journey took a tragic turn in January this year. A blood and bone marrow test indicated that he had potentially relapsed.

On January 24, Nolan's relapse was confirmed, with only 11% of his father's bone marrow and blood cells remaining in his body.

Nolan began additional chemotherapy treatment in February. His response to treatment will determine the timeline for a third transplant, leaving his family to face an unknown future for their little boy.

Through the highs and lows of his cancer journey, Nolan's infectious laughter, vibrant spirit, and passion for hockey provide some comfort for him and his family.
