The rain and clouds made their exit to make a perfect holiday Monday of the Aug. long weekend. I feel sorry for anyone camping Sat. night through to this morning though! Over 100 mm of rain here.
I rode in the morning and then again a shorter ride in the evening as it was just too temptingly nice. The road beckoned.
100mm rainfall and wild thunderstorms that started last night began to lighten up late afternoon today. The change in the sky fooled me into setting out only to have low dark clouds roar across the sky again. Down came the rain at a clip my glasses couldn't handle so I turned back. Of course, the rain let up and the sky brightened as I reached my lane. Sooo ... turned around and finished the planned ride. A few more showers en route but could still see! All good. Thrilling dramatic sky over Lake Baptiste!
Deciding to start the month's rides at 12:01 on August 1 again this year now makes doing this a fine tradition for me to adopt!
The weather forecast was not promising for seeing the almost full moon or for staying dry but the weather fairy gave me clear skies and bright moonlight to enjoy. So very lucky.
My tour covered a little over 10 km on my peaceful back roads, making a fine beginning to reaching 375 km by Aug. 31.
Nice bonus...as the moon rose it almost looked like daylight by the time I turned in my lane - only to see my old mare waiting at the gate for an apple. She must have heard my tires crunching on the gravel before I rounded the bend to home!
Again this year, I plan to start with a night ride at the stroke of midnight. The moon will be slightly past full and may bring light to the dark. Clouds are in the forecast so cross your fingers for me!
Hoping for an August free of wildfire smoke this year - bad for kids and bad for riders. Looks good to start so ready, set go at 12:01 a.m. August 1
The ride challenge starts August 1st. Keep an eye out for reports on my progress then. Wish me the wind at my back!
