Today’s mail contained my 2024 jersey. My first thing is to say thank you, but not for what you may think. Thank you for the privilege to take part in this wonderful event. That I am permitted to to wear your colours year round is an added bonus and keeps your cause utmost in my mind.
With the jersey came a card describing the remarkable achievement of one of the young victims of this terrible disease. It matters not to me whether all the cards that are sent out are the story of the same or different children. It matters to me that they are recognized for being the heroes of this event. That they cope daily with the pain, suffering and uncertainty of cancer and the scary path it leads them down, is a testament to their courage, optimism and resilience in the face of terrible, terrifying and uncertain circumstances. Thank you for allowing me the huge privilege to get a glimpse of this kind of heroism.
Finally, to the young lady who is the hero of the story in my card, every time I look at of put on this jersey, I will think about you. I pray for your continued healing and recovery. Thank you for allowing me to be a very small part of your life.
It is with great sadness that I have to inform everyone that due to a mishap at home, I am forced to abandon. I have experienced a torn quad muscle and tendon. Biking looks like it is done for this year!
I want to express my deepest appreciation and affection for my sponsors and their generosity. It is this and the focus of all the organizers that makes this event so much fun.
Bring on 2025!!
