Just wanted to share some final stats and thoughts now that the challenge has officially ended.
First of all, a huge thank you to everyone who donated or shared my page! Without your support, I wouldn't have hit, and exceeded, my $500 fundraising goal.
A big thank you also goes to my family for holding down the fort while I spent a little more time out of the house and on the bike!
I started August hopeful that I could reach my $500 fundraising goal and add an additional 50 KM to my original 200 KM riding goal. As the month progressed, the donations kept coming, and the riding goal kept growing. For every additional $100 raised, I added another 10 KM to the goal.
I initially capped the challenge at 250 KM, but as the end of the month approached, I realized I had reached the $600 milestone and managed to squeeze in one more big ride to finish with a total of 265 KM!
Riding wasn't the only challenge I set for myself in August. I also committed to keeping up with my regular hiking and running schedule, and I'm happy to say I was able to accomplish my riding goal while still getting out for plenty of hikes and runs throughout the month.
Of course, there were some challenges along the way. The smoky air from wildfires kept me off the bike on some days, trail closures made some rides less enjoyable, and COVID made riding pretty much impossible for a few days.
There were also a couple of unexpected surprises!
First, I earned a cycling jersey for being one of the fastest participants to reach $500 in donations.
Then, on my second ride wearing the jersey, I happened to meet another couple on the trail who were also wearing their challenge jerseys! We didn't get a chance to stop and chat, but it was pretty fun to see the surprised looks on their faces as we passed each other.
All in all, I'm really happy with how the challenge turned out. 265 KM ridden, $600+ raised, and plenty of hiking and running along the way.
Most importantly, though, it's been great knowing that all those KMs and all of your support are helping fight childhood cancer.
Thank you again to everyone who donated, shared, encouraged me, or simply followed along. I really appreciate it!
Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to donate, and share my page!
I've reached and exceeded the $500 goal that I set out for, but the work is not over. I've added the final 10km to my ride goal which now sits at 250km for the month.
Trail closures, and wildfire smoke are obstacles standing in the way of the last 150 km but I will prevail!
I just raised $500 to fight kids' cancer and achieved GUARDIAN LEVEL in the challenge! Thank you so much for your support.
