• August 13, 2026 - Donation Matching Day Update - $2640 !!
    13 Aug 2026

    Hi Everyone!

Yesterday the donation amount on my page was $388, and this morning, after your generous donations and the matching provided by the Garron family, our collective donations are at $2640 !! How incredible is that??

Its amazing what we can do together when we are focused on a goal….never doubt that in any aspect of your life.

We really have accomplished something good together this month for children we will never meet. Thank you again for your support and generosity to this cause!

I mentioned that yesterday’s donations were matched by the Garron family, as they have done every year since I have participated in the GCC ride. You might wonder who these philanthropists are…? Here is a bit about them….

Michael Garron was a boy who died from a rare form of cancer at age 13. He had dreamed of becoming a marine biologist some day. He is remembered for his courage, positivity, and determination. He told his mother he was afraid he would be forgotten. His mother (Berna Garron) told him that as long as she was alive, he would never be forgotten. In 2015 the Garron family set up a foundation with a $50 million dollar endowment to the Toronto East General Hospital which was subsequently renamed to the Michael Garron Hospital in his memory. My own immediate family has received care at this hospital located in East York over the years.

Each year the Garron family supports the Sick Kids Foundation by matching donations for the GCC rides up to an amount of $1.3 million.

I hope this information gives you a better idea of what you have been a part of this month. Thank you!

Hello!! I completed another 22.65 km this morning on yet another beautiful sunny and low wind morning on the island. Its so peaceful and quiet over here…I think I had two cars and two dumptrucks pass me during my 85 min ride…saw some large sailboats with full sails set further south off the island towards Main Duck island. If youve never visited I highly recommend you make the journey!
