My Story

This June, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

  • Post Match High
    15 Jun 2019

Today has a lot going for it. Number one, it’s Friday. I could stop right here and leave it at that. Undeniably the best day of the week. Beats Monday by a long shot. Not even a match! But that’s not all there is about today.

Today has a lot going for it because the Raptors won the NBA Championship last night, and, despite my inner voice telling - pleading - with me to go to bed, I stayed up until the end of the second 0.9 seconds left to watch history be made. What a match! No regrets, sleep is so over rated. But that’s still not all there is about today.

Today has a lot going for it because of you - you who have donated and sponsored this Challenge. You who have followed and supported these efforts. And you whose donations were graciously matched yesterday.

That is the post match high, and I couldn’t be more grateful to you.

This challenge is half over, but for some kids it is just beginning - let’s give ‘em their own post match high and kick cancer’s butt.

    Peace and Love

  • Excuse Me - Parts 1, 2 and 3
    13 Jun 2019

You'll have to excuse me -

I'm just riding my bike here.

I'm just trying to get to work.

Did you listen to my bell

Telling you that I am behind you

On the path that we must share?

You'll have to excuse me -

I'm just riding my bike here.

I'm just trying to reach my goal.

Can you see that you have parked

    Right across my bike lane

On the route that we must share?

You'll have to excuse me -

I'm just riding my bike here.

I'm just trying to raise some money.

Will you notice when you drive

    Inches from my mirror

On the road that we must share?

You'll have to excuse me -

I'm just riding my bike here.

I'm just trying to build awareness.

Did you? Can you? Will you?

Share one path, one route, one road

And help to fight Kids Cancer?

    Peace and Love,

    Lynda

  • Wind is a four letter word
    4 Jun 2019

Yep, so I have spoken of this before, in one of last year’s posts. It merits a revisit, because yesterday’s wind was a stiff (always) in your face 26km with a 38 km wind gust - there’s another four letter word. Park that alongside 5 C at 0725h and we have ourselves an additional chilly 10 minutes added on to the morning commute.

But I can’t complain (well, maybe I am just a tad), because the SUN was out - I almost forgot we had a sun, it’s appearance has been so fleeting this Spring. Sun has an amazing ability to make wind tolerable, seem less significant, just part of the scenery. It regenerates and rejuvenates, and heals the mind, body and soul. Whose spirit isn’t lifted when the sun is shining?

I started this post with a four letter word - here are more to consider ....

    Pain

    Sick

    Help

    Life

    Kids

    Mind. Body. Soul.

    Heal

    Cure

    Love

Your support for this ride is truly appreciated - let’s eliminate some of these words.

    Peace and Love, as always

  • Sunday Funday
    3 Jun 2019

Today was my first real day of riding this year, so I choose to ride to and from work, which is about 25 Km total, so a good little distance to start with, and one that I will be doing alot of this month.

I have always said that the nice thing about riding to work on the weekend (haha, glass half full, did you notice that?) is that there is WAY LESS TRAFFIC than on a weekday. Which means that I can take major routes that I wouldn't normally take on a weekday, because of the volume of traffic. So, I get to see some stuff that I wouldn't see on my usual route. Which is cool. I also discovered that there is one more major hill using the major route - not as cool, lol - why do we never notice hills when we are in our cars???

I have actually started to comment, to myself of course, about hills when I am driving - mental notes of where to ride and where to avoid. Problem is, those mental notes don't stay around as long as I would like them to. But that's another story for another day. Suffice to say that Sunday was a Funday for riding - looking forward to the rest of the month.

If you are able to donate to this great cause, please do so - make every day a Funday for these kids.

    Peace and Love,

    Lynda
