My Story

This June, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Why? Because right now, over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Please support me by making a donation to give these kids the brighter futures they deserve.

Your support will change little lives.

Thank you.

Ernie

  • Abigail's Story - My motivation!!
    28 May 2019

    Hi Everyone,

With a limited number of days until the great cycle challenge starts I wanted to share the story of a family member who is the reason I have personally taken on this challenge.

On January 17, 2018 Abigail Hosick visit the orthopedics at CHEO because of pains in her femur. The original diagnosis was that she had a break in her femur, which was causing the pain. After a CT scan and MRI the doctors found a tumor.

After weeks of tests and a biopsy of the bone it was determined that she had Pre-B Lymphoblastic Lymphoma, which is a very rare form of lymphoma. Since the tumor was located inside the femur it grew to the point where is cracked the bone from the inside out.

On February 14, 2017 Abigail began chemotherapy treatment, which was the start of her 2.5 year journey and fight against cancer. Abigail and her parents then spent the next 2.5 months at Ronald McDonald House going in and out of treatment. Since the Hosick family is a family of 5, Abigail's parents and other family members took turns staying with her at the hospital. The Chemo treatments continued for another 8-9 months and took a toll on her mentally and physically.

Due to the extensive treatments Abigail was forced to miss school for over a year. Abigail has since returned to school and has grown to appreciate school more and more. Just recently she was back in the hospital with a fever which brought great concern to the family. After several days in the hospital Abigail was cleared to go home.

June 13, 2019, will be a big day for Abigail as it will mark the end of her regular cancer treatments. On June 15th, I will be making it a special day for Abigail as I will be doing an extra long bike ride in celebration the end of her treatment. Each day throughout the month of June Abigail will also be getting involved with setting regular daily goals for me to meet.

Please support us by making a donation to give kids like Abigail the brighter futures they deserve.
