My Story

This August, I am taking part in the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids' cancer!

Personally, I spent over a year sick in hospital with a view of Sick Kids Hospital. Watching the Orange helicopters flying in out out of Sick Kids, wondering who was being saved. I received my Life saving surgery April 26 2022. Now home, I’m going to get on my bike in August and raise awareness with regards to Children’s Cancer. I understand their optimism and deep need to feel better. As a Registered Nurse, I have deep compassion for our sick children.

Why? Because right now, over 1,400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year, and it's the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada.

Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

So I am raising funds through my challenge to help these kids and support SickKids Foundation to allow them to continue their work in developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

    So many safe bike paths in Durham Region. Packed up our bikes and headed to Waterfront Trail @ Heydenshore.

    Easy for a three year old to ride and tons to explore at the park, beach and watch the new splash pad built. My balance is good, need a better bike seat.

    Hope to join dad Tim Wessels, on a ride soon. 💪🏻

    I was feeling strong after physiotherapy; went home and got on my bike. You never forget how to ride a bike. I stayed safe and completed a quick 1 km. Felt great.

  • Almost ready to ride

    I month post transplant! Physiotherapy is guiding me to strengthen my shoulders. I will be fit August 1 to cycle for all of August.

    A great cause and amazing motivation to keep moving through the pain.
