Hold an Event
Organizing your own event can be a great way to involve your friends, family or work colleagues in your personal challenge to fight kids' cancer. They can be as simple as you like and it's a way to give something back to those that are supporting your efforts.
Do something that you'll enjoy, ask your friends for help and most importantly, have fun!
Below are some great fundraising event ideas:
Host a trivia night in a local pub, restaurant or at your workplace. Sell tickets to attend and ask your personal contacts or local businesses to donate prizes for a raffle or silent auction.
Host a Dinner
Host a dinner in a local restaurant and organize a set menu. Then charge each attendee a specific amount (i.e. $50) which covers their food and drink and include a donation to contribute to your fundraising efforts. You'll find this will actually be cheaper than a normal night out so your friends will be more than happy to attend (and they might bring some more friends to support you).
If you really want to make an impact, hold a live auction on the night and ask your friends or local business for prizes - then have some fun with your friends bidding against each other!
In the true nature of cycling, waxing your legs is standard practice for many lycra lovers. Host a wax-off and charge your friends to administer a wax strip to your leg...and let them rip it off!
Other event ideas include a movie night, stationary bike-a-thon, lawn bowls, guessing competition or scavenger hunt. Get creative and plan an event that works for you!
Matched Funding / Company Donations
Many companies offer financial assistance to their employees to encourage support of charities and good causes. This typically involves matching your fundraising total or making a large donation towards your fundraising efforts.
Even if there is no such program in place, your employer might still be willing to contribute - all you need to do is ask!
Sponsor per Kilometre
Ask your friends or company to sponsor you for each kilometre you ride throughout June. It's a great way to challenge yourself and stay motivated and they can even cap it at an agreed distance to make sure they know just how far you could go.
At just $1 per kilometre, it's still a great idea to keep you riding to fight kids' cancer!
During June, hold a cycle-a-thon and ask your friends to sponsor you for a one-day cycling challenge. Your challenge could be 25 laps of a city park, riding from one town to another or taking part in a local cycling event.
Your kilometres will add to your overall total for the month, but you can tell people about your one-day challenge to ask for their support.
